摘要:
This research was initiated to compare various digestion methods available for determination of total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) in pulp and paper mill biologically treated wastewaters. The work focused on NCASI Method TNTP-W10900, which is based on an alkaline to acidic persulfate digestion and automated colorimetric analysis for simultaneous determination of nitrogen and phosphorus. This method was compared to EPA Methods 365.1 and 365.4 for TP and 351.2 for total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), and to a TN/TP method used in NCASI's Long-Term Receiving Water Study. Samples were analyzed for nitrate (NO 3) and nitrite (NO2) in order to calculate TN from TKN results (TN = (NO3+NO2) + TKN). Results were evaluated using statistical (multiple variable analyses) and graphical techniques. P and TN results obtained for replicates in 16 matrices showed that a significant relationship existed for concentrations obtained using TNTP-W 10900 and the EPA-approved methods for TP and TKN. Quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) experiments indicated that NCASI TNTP-W 10900 provided consistently reproducible (relative percent differences ranged from
