Introduction and history

This section provides a brief history of the development of the finite element method. The general picture of the science of mechanics to formulate the most general rules, variational and boundary value problems, are presented. The approximate solution of both types of formulations are discussed and how these approximate solutions are transformed into the finite element method are presented.
