Rule-based traction system failure control of distributed electric drive vehicle

Focusing on the drive capability shortage and instability induced by traditional failure control strategy of traction system applied in distributed electric drive vehicle, a novel strategy is developed. This novel rule-based strategy takes advantage of the feature that distributed electric drive vehicle is an actuation redundancy system and each wheel drives independently without mechanical linkage. Trial results verify that, when failure happens, the novel strategy can enhance drive capability in low velocity and small steering angle situation, and improve lateral stability in high velocity or large steering angle situation. © 2012 Journal of Mechanical Engineering.
