The methods of production of Babbit coatings are discussed, and the main reasons reducing the service properties of the Babbit alloys are outlined. Experimental studies show that the application of the method of plasma arc surfacing is highly promising for producing coatings of Babbit alloys. The wear resistance of the deposited coatings is higher than that of cast Babbit alloys, without affecting the friction coefficient. © 2014, © 2014 Taylor & Francis.
