摘要
Although there is no cure for dementia, in the earlier disease stages, while symptoms are not very severe, some non-pharmacological treatments aimed towards memory support and social interactions may preserve autonomy and dignity of dementia patients. With this goal in mind, we designed a tablet application called RefineMind that refreshes and reminds patients of important details about themselves and others, and aids them with daily life tasks and interactions with caregivers. The app features a photo book, a medication reminder, a daily schedule reminder and a game module with interfaces designed using evidence-based principles. 5 caregivers of dementia patients assessed the app for its usability and provided feedback on the app's usefulness. The app received an average score of 86.5 on the System Usability Scale, which translates to excellent usability. All caregivers agreed that the app can improve interactions with their patients. A usability evaluation of the app is being planned with people with dementia.
