摘要
The present quantitative study aimed to analyze variations in the use of contraceptive methods among women aged 15 to 49 in Argentina during the periods of 2011-2012 and 2019-2020, and to compare their use according to socioeconomic and geographical characteristics. The sources of information used were the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys of children and adolescents in Argentina for 2011-2012 and 2019-2020, conducted by UNICEF. Descriptive statistics showed an increase in the percentage of women using at least one contraceptive method to prevent pregnancy between the study periods. The most commonly used modern methods were condoms and contraceptive pills, with tubal ligation, implants/chips, injectable contraceptives, female condoms, and contraceptive patches showing the most pronounced increases. There was a statistically significant increase in contraceptive use in the Northwest and Cuyo regions of Argentina, accompanied by an increase in method application among women from more vulnerable socioeconomic strata. Logistic regression models indicated increased odds of women using at least one contraceptive method to prevent pregnancy among the age groups of 20-24 years and 35-39 years and above, across all completed educational levels, and in most geographical regions. It is conjectured that the increased use of contraceptive methods is associated with state policies that have promoted access to sexual and reproductive health during the 21st century.
