摘要
The European Union's decision to decouple from Russian gas supplies has presented the United States with an opportunity to assume Russia's position in the European energy market. This study examines the narrative employed in official White House communications regarding the export of liquified natural gas from the United States to Europe during the period from 2009 to 2024. With the exception of two geopolitical crises - the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 - this topic has not featured prominently in White House communications. Although these crises were geopolitical in nature, the dominant narrative has revolved around market-oriented arguments, reflecting a liberal approach to international relations that emphasises cooperation and trust in the market's ability to support European countries in addressing their energy needs.
