A review of the research progress on composite materials in automotive components,using the bumper anti-collision beam as an example,was conducted to promote their application. The material and structural design of composite anti-collision beams,as well as the research progress on the connection of internal parts of bumpers,were summarized. Progress in research on carbon fiber,glass fiber,natural fiber,and other composite materials in automotive anti-collision beams were briefly described. The influence of different structural composite anti-collision beams on crashworthiness performance was introduced,and the advantages and disadvantages of different connection methods for internal parts of bumpers were analyzed. Finally,future directions for the development of automotive composite anti-collision beams were proposed,including the development of new types of composite materials,optimization of anti-collision beam structures,and research on new connection methods. © 2024 Engineering Plastics Application Magazine.
