Lean production systems and industrie 4.0 – process orientation as enabler towards industrie 4.0

Modern information and communication technologies will be integrated into the production in future. The importance of customer orientation and the design of processes along the customer wishes will increase. A process orientation within the company is supporting the customer focus. Moreover, processes need to be designed efficiently, without non-value adding activities. A Lean Production System pursues the goal of creating a process orientation within the organization and the design of efficient, customer orientated processes. Thus, companies need to have a certain level of Lean Production Systems before starting the implementation of Industrie 4.0. The technological approach of Industrie 4.0 needs to be implemented in the context of Lean Production Systems and therefore, a common approach is necessary to implement a production system for future challenges. © 2016, Carl Hanser Verlag.
