Because of adverse effects due to or during blasting, the level of safety and stability of engineering constructions can be improved by employing vibration analysis. Therein, the complexity is due to multiple superposition of blasting sequences, especially for highway tunnels. The most commonly used Sadaovsk formula requires enhancement to characterize wave propagation and vibration aspects through large-scale monitoring data to model dynamic loading and its attenuation. The numerical model for the software FLAC3D, alongside the physical dimensions, routinely accepts the constitutive parameters from laboratory tests. The resulting simulated velocity curves in case studies of electricity transmission towers (pylons) and adjacent tunnels, which are reported in this paper, compared well with the allowable peak velocity that is prescribed in the China Construction Specifications to evaluate the safety. © 2014 ejge.
