摘要
Rare earth elements are benefit for improving the hardness and wear resistance properties of nitrocarburizing layers. The effect of rare earth on nitrocarburizing process and corresponding mechanism of steel should be further studied. The paper gives a review of the main research activities recently carried out in the development and types of nitrocarburizing of steels with addition of rare earth elements. The focus is the addition methods and the mechanism of rare earth in five processes of nitrocarburizing. After a brief summarizes of the effect of rare earth on the properties of nitrocarburizing layers and substrate, the paper discusses the challenges and puts forward some suggestions of nitrocarburizing with rare earth. © 2016, Materials Review Magazine.
