Whitefly1 Repellency with Basil Crude Extracts under Laboratory Conditions

For the management of the whitefly Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood 1856, extracts were obtained from the aerial part of the basil plant Ocimum basilicum L. 1753, which was in the vegetative development stage, the extraction of secondary compounds was carried out with solvents. organic compounds such as methanol, ethanol, dichloromethane and hexane, to determine their repellent effect on whitefly adults, under laboratory conditions with the cylinder method. Seven concentrations were used per extract and two controls: a synthetic insecticide (Endosulfan 360CE) and water. Crude basil extracts produced 64 to 99% repellency of whitefly adults. Basil extracts obtained with methanol, ethanol, and hexane, at concentrations 0.1 and 1.0% demonstrated grater repellency than endosulfan. The crude basil extract in dichloromethane reached 88 % repellency of whitefly adults, which is considered to be more effective.
