Analysis of the Press in the Last Three Years About Surrogacy in Mexico

摘要
A mixed research was conducted to assess how legislation affects news headlines related to surrogacy in Mexico. The research used a concurrent nested design approach. Firstly, the study examined the linguistic ideology of 331 surrogacy-related headlines from the last three years in 16 newspapers. Secondly, 152 publications news headlines were assessed, and a content analysis was conducted on the concept and process of surrogacy. The findings revealed that the most commonly used terms in the headlines were surrogacy, pregnancy, and surrogate. Most of the news items were about public figures, had an altruistic perspective, focused on new family models, and explored the commodification of women's bodies. Additionally, 8 news items provided definitions of surrogacy, and 9 discussed the surrogacy process. The study also found that altruism was the most common theme in the news. However, in states where surrogacy is legal, more news items associated with legal, ethical, and anthropological aspects were published.
