Compact Dual-Band Antenna for WiFi/WiMAX Applications

摘要
This research paper presents a new design for a dual-band compact microstrip based patch antenna that covers 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and 5.8 GHz WiMAX applications by using the Defected Ground Structure (DGS) technique and three-quarter circles separated by slots as a patch. The antenna is designed using an FR-4 illumination with a dielectric permittivity of 4.7 and a height of 1.6 mm. The rectangular patch has dimensions of 42.7 mm in length and 47.7 mm in width. The performance of the antenna has been evaluated using CST, yielding the best results, such as a return loss of -23.85 dB, VSWR of 1.18, directivity of 2.49 dBi, and gain of 2.14 dBi, and a return loss of -21.37 dB, VSWR of 1.120, directivity of 4.76 dBi, and gain of 3.13 dB for the resonant frequencies of 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz respectively. Feeding network is also designed for real time applications. The antenna is fabricated and tested for validation, return loss of -12.364 dB at 2.4 GHz and -13.417 dB at 5.8 GHz was obtained. Therefore, the innovative designed antenna meets all the criteria for a next-generation electrically small antenna, simple, and easy to build.
