摘要：

This paper presents a description of the distribution and characteristics of the rock art images recorded in twelve rock shelters located in the lower basin of the Deseado River, on the North coast of Santa Cruz province, in Patagonia Argentina. A systematic study of the motifs is carried out and the implications of their confection are discussed from a spatial-temporal perspective that includes the integration of coastal and inland contexts. The results show an expansion towards the east of the motifs present in the interior plateaus of the Deseado Massif and suggest the use of rock art in the visual marking of the space associated with the course of the Deseado River, which could have functioned as a vector of people and ideas during the middle and late Holocene.
