摘要
The paper proposes a photonic crystal ring resonator (PCRR) based all-optical OR gate. A Y-shaped Junction and a ring resonator are used for designing this gate. The Kerr effect operating on the switching threshold mechanism has been utilized to control how light is coupled into output when a high input intensity is injected into the device. The plane wave expansion method has also been used to determine the operating wavelength, bandgap diagram. The logic inputs of the OR gate have an operating wavelength of 1551.3 nm. The operating power intensity for the proposed OR gate is obtained to be 1 kW/mu m(2) and the threshold power intensity at 2.8 kW/mu m(2) using the FDTD method. The simulation results are consistent with the logic table of the OR gate, confirming the functionality of the device. The obtained contrast ratio of the structure is 5.73 dB, and the transmission is greater than 0.7. For the designed structure, the response time is 2.33 ps with a fast data rate of 0.43 Tbps which is highly suitable for photonic integrated circuits.
