Environmental education in Sao Tome and Principe from the school's perspective

摘要：

Environmental education is demonstrating an increasing importance at a global level, including within the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries. Sao Tome and Pr & iacute;ncipe, in particular, has made an effort to value this concept, including in a school context, where it is taught as a subject. In order to understand the perceptions of students and teachers regarding environmental education and its importance, interviews were carried out and their content was analyzed. In general, the importance of environmental education as a subject and area of curriculum enrichment is recognized by students and teachers. According to teachers, there is a lack of ideal conditions in schools to address topics related to environmental education, but the methodologies adopted are usually similar. The themes most valued by students and teachers have a parallel with some of the country's main environmental problems, such as those related to waste management, the forest or the sea. Also, the variety of advanced solutions seems to indicate a well-developed common environmental awareness.
