The codesign process of virtual simulation games in medical education: a case study of the ER-VIPE platform

摘要
Virtual simulation games (VSGs) are being rapidly integrated into education, particularly in medical education, where these games are being designed to train medical students, significantly affecting patient safety. VSG development requires collaboration among multidisciplinary experts, making the codesign process pivotal. This study investigates the codesign process in VSG development for medical education, emphasising the roles and contributions of design teams and communication tools. By discussing a case study of the Emergency Room-Virtual InterProfessional Education (ER-VIPE) platform, Thailand's pioneering virtual reality platform for medical interprofessional education (IPE), this study details the codesign process step-by-step and offers insights from lessons learned. The findings reveal the complex collaboration among content creators, game developers, and the support team. This inquiry enhances the understanding of designers' vital role as key advocates and communicators for the project, highlighting the game flow diagram and 3D layout floor plans as essential communication tools guiding collaboration throughout the design process.
