Aspects that influence entrepreneurial intention in university students from Colombia and Mexico

This research aims to compare the aspects that influence the entrepreneurial intentions of marketing and advertising students in Colombia and Mexico. Using a quantitative approach, an electronic survey was conducted among 302 university students in Colombia and 315 in Mexico. With the statistical technique of ordinal logistic regression, differences were identified in attitudes and other factors that affect entrepreneurial intention. The results indicate that entrepreneurial attitudes, through skills and abilities, increase the likelihood of becoming an entrepreneur, while fear of failure negatively affects the likelihood of being an entrepreneur. Collectivism is related to the preference for business creation through partnerships. Social class and source of income are inversely related to entrepreneurial intent. These results are relevant input for the strengthening of skills and policies in relation to business start-ups in the university environment.
