摘要
Introduction: The modified Star Excursion Balance Test (mSEBT) is commonly used to assess dynamic balance in physically active individuals. It quantifies performance and can be used to assess, monitor and prevent injuries. Objective: To investigate the relationship between the maximum reach in the mSEBT directions and the center of pressure variables during the functional test. Method: The study involved 31 healthy, physically active individuals. Participants performed the mSEBT on a force platform to assess center of pressure behavior. The three measurements of maximal reach for each direction were averaged and composite scores were calculated. Stabilometric data including anteroposterior amplitude, mediolateral amplitude, total displacement, area, anteroposterior velocity and mediolateral velocity were recorded. Pearson or Spearman correlations were used depending on the normality of the data. Results: Significant and moderate correlations were found between the posteromedial, posterolateral and composite scores with total displacement both on the right (r = 0.617; p = 0.000/r = 0.557; p = 0.012/r = 0.485; p = 0.048) and on the left (r = 0.559; p = 0.012/r = 0.553; p = 0.012/r = 0.510; p = 0.024). The anterior direction showed no association with any center of pressure variables. Conclusion: The posteromedial, posterolateral and composite directions show greater changes in center of pressure shifts in contrast to the anterior direction. This suggests that these directions require higher neuromuscular demands and distinct motor control strategies to maintain dynamic balance.
