摘要
A novel conjugate utilizing naphthalene diimide (NDI) functionalized with barbituric acid (BA) is designed and synthesized. The properties of the NDI-BA chromophore are modulated via the thiophene spacer which is used to conjugate the BA subunit to the NDI core. The optical properties of the NDI-BA chromophore were found to be influenced by the solvent composition in mixed solvent systems such as THF: H2O, CHCl3:MCH, and CHCl3: MeOH, as revealed by UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence (FL) emission studies. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) images exhibited a variety of morphologies such as nanoparticles, nanoribbons and helical nanoribbons. The dynamic light scattering (DLS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were employed to study the NDI-BA aggregates size distribution in solution and crystallinity in its film form, respectively. The relationship between solvent polarity and self-assembled and the formation of nanostructures is also discussed in detail.
