Effect of aging temperature after solution treatment on the wear behavior of maraging 18Ni-300 steel manufactured by laser powder bed fusion

摘要
Maraging steel was fabricated using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), followed by solution treatment and aging at various temperatures. Hardness increased with aging temperature, but aging at 590 degrees C led to reduced hardness enhancement due to over-aging and the formation of reverted austenite. Nevertheless, the specimen aged at 590 degrees C showed comparable or even superior wear resistance, attributed to the formation of a tribo-film and strain-induced martensite during sliding. This tribo-film played a significant role in enhancing wear protection. Surface and subsurface analyses confirmed localized martensitic transformation induced by plastic deformation, further contributing to the enhancement of wear resistance. These results indicate that the wear resistance of LPBF-produced maraging steel is influenced not only by hardness but also by sliding-induced microstructural changes, including tribo-film formation and strain-induced phase transformation.
