摘要
Purpose-The pervasive integration of information and communications technology (ICT) has brought about a significant transformation in various sectors, notably the banking industry. E-banking has emerged as a convenient means for customers to access financial services without the necessity of physical visits to traditional bank branches. In Egypt, while the popularity of e-banking is on the rise, certain barriers persist that impede its widespread adoption. This study aims to pinpoint and analyze these barriers through expert opinions, aiming to offer valuable insights into the challenges hindering e-banking adoption in Egypt. Design/methodology/approach-Using the interpretive structural modeling (ISM) approach, this study constructs a hierarchical model of the identified barriers and delves into their interconnected nature. The validation of this model is carried out using the Delphi method, ensuring robustness and reliability in the findings presented. Findings-The research underscores that resistance to change, the scarcity of ICT-specialized human resources and the lack of adequate financial backing stand out as pivotal driving barriers to e-banking adoption. In addition, concerns over security, deficient digital infrastructure and a lack of technological literacy are identified as significant impediments to wider acceptance. Originality/value-This study contributes to the existing body of literature by shedding light on the specific barriers to e-banking adoption in Egypt. Furthermore, it offers actionable insights for policymakers and banking institutions to facilitate broader adoption, enhance trust among users and fortify digital infrastructure, thereby fostering the growth of e-banking services in the country.
