The Trend of Japanese Encephalitis in Uttar Pradesh, India

摘要
Objective:Japanese encephalitis (JE) is one of the most important causes of viral encephalitis in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Over 5 years (2018-2022), this study aims to find out the seropositivity for JEV in cases presenting as AES.Materials and Methods:Over 5 years, 8131 cerebrospinal fluid and 504 serum samples were tested for anti-JEV Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies by IgM antibody capture (MAC) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) according to the manufacturer's instructions (MAC ELISA kit developed by the National Institute of Virology, Pune, India.Results:A total of 526 cases (6.09%) tested positive for anti-JEV IgM antibodies during the study periods. The number of JEV positives was high in 2018 (11.25%) but decreased gradually over the next 5 years (2019 (5.71%), 2020 (5.22%), 2021 (4.36%), and 2022 (2.91%). JE positivity is declining over time in UP, India. There is an age shift from children to adults. Men are more often affected than women.Conclusion:Further JE-centric studies with an emphasis on immunization are required to determine the influence of vaccination on the incidence of Japanese encephalitis and the population shift among adults. Objetivo:La encefalitis japonesa (JE) es una de las causas má s importantes de encefalitis viral en Uttar Pradesh. (UP). Durante 5 añ os (2018-2022), este estudio tiene como objetivo determinar la seropositividad para JEV en casos que se presentan como AES.Materiales y Mé todos:Durante 5 añ os, 8131 muestras de lí quido cefalorraquí deo lí quido y 504 muestras de suero fueron analizadas para detectar anticuerpos de inmunoglobulina M (IgM) anti-JEV mediante el ensayo de captura de anticuerpos IgM (MAC) acoplado a enzimas inmunosorbente (ELISA) segú n las instrucciones del fabricante (kit MAC ELISA desarrollado por el Instituto Nacional de Virologí a, Pune, India.Resultados:Un total de 526 casos (6.09%) dieron positivo para anticuerpos IgM anti-JEV durante los perí odos de estudio. El nú mero de Los positivos de JEV fueron altos en 2018 (11.25%) pero disminuyeron gradualmente durante los siguientes 5 añ os (2019 (5.71%), 2020 (5.22%), 2021 (4.36%), y 2022 (2.91%). La positividad de JE está disminuyendo con el tiempo en UP, India. Hay un cambio de edad de los niñ os a los adultos. Los hombres se ven afectados má s a menudo que mujeres.Conclusió n:Se requieren má s estudios centrados en el JE con é nfasis en la inmunizació n para determinar la influencia de la vacunació n enla incidencia de encefalitis japonesa y el cambio poblacional entre adultos.Palabras clave:sí ndrome de encefalitis aguda, inmunizació n, virus de la encefalitis japonesa, seropositividad.
