The Usage of Generative Artificial Intelligence According to Sociodemographic Characteristics of Undergraduate Students

摘要
The rapid evolution of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has impacted higher education establishments across the world. To better understand how these new digital tools are used, the authors' international Partnership on University Plagiarism Prevention (PUPP) administered a questionnaire to 4,661 undergraduate students from thirty-one universities in North America and Europe. In this article, the authors present the results of a logistic regression model measuring the influence of five sociodemographic variables (gender, age, region, language, study programme) on the use of GenAI by students. In this regard, all variables except the age group showed a statistically significance correlation with the usage of GenAI. A discussion ensues on how individual characteristics may impact the perceptions of ease of use and usefulness of new technologies with a view toward promoting academic integrity in higher education during this period of drastic changes.
