摘要
The current study aimed to examine significant predictors of negative attitudes toward adoption by same-sex couples and same-sex parenting. A cross-sectional study was conducted via an online survey. A total of 130 Greek heterosexual adults aged between 18 and 57 years old (M = 25.26; SD = 8.84) participated in the study. Bivariate correlations were generated to explore the associations between variables of interest. Multiple regression analysis was performed to estimate the influences of socio-demographic and attitudinal characteristics, and causal attributions about sexual orientation on participants’ attitudes toward same-sex couples’ right to adopt and parent. Results showed that, over and above the impact of socio-demographic and attitudinal characteristics, those who believed that sexual orientation is controllable were also likely to express more negative views towards sexual minorities’ rights such as adopting and parenting. This study’s results show that changes in attributional beliefs can produce changes in attitudes towards equality of adoption and family rights. © 2023, Associação Brasileira de Psicologia.
