This article aims to promotes reflections on the ambivalent role of oblivion and destruction in the social processes of memory, based on the analysis of related phenomena, such as memoricide and the violation of cultural heritage as a form of protest. With the proposed objective in mind, it encompasses a methodological procedure of qualitative approach, with a basic and exploratory nature, involving bibliographic methods through a literature review from works of notable expertise in the field of Memory and works found on platforms such as Base de Dados Referenciais deArtigos de Peri & oacute;dicos em Ci & ecirc;ncia da Informa & ccedil;& atilde;o, The Scientific Electronic Library Online, Base Digital de Teses e Disserta & ccedil;& otilde;es and Portal de Peri & oacute;dicos da Coordena & ccedil;& atilde;o de Aperfei & ccedil;oamento de Pessoal de N & iacute;vel Superior, based on the following descriptors, alone or combined: a) Memoricide; b) Memory; c) Heritage; d) Destruction; e) Burning; f) Oblivion; g) Biblioclast. From this, it is understood that oblivion and destruction have an ambiguous significant power, and can be seen both as villains and as a tool against a hegemonic system in this way, they can become both tools of domination and social control, as well as a way of fighting against the dominant system and offering memory other perspectives.
