摘要
This article aims at understanding early labor insertion in two families of rural workers, focusing on intergenerationality in the dimension of meanings and symbolic processes. Data were collected through field observations of participants and semi-structured interviews with two children, one adolescent and three adults belonging to two different generations of families. The main results indicate that the positive valuation of child labor and its meaning as an educational and socializing practice were present in different family generations. The paper discusses that reducing vulnerabilities through compensatory social policies may lessen the presence of child labor among families in different contexts, provided that these are coupled with educational practices that problematize the positive meanings of work present in family groups and in the Brazilian society in general. © Associação Brasileira de Psicologia 2023.
