摘要
Mental disorders can mostly be defined by the inconsistent, excessive, inappropriate and inadequate characteristics observed in emotions, thoughts and behaviors. Mental disorders are common all over the world, in addition to their tendency to become chronic and create serious difficulties in fulfilling professional and social roles. Various psychotropic drugs used in the treatment of mental disorders have side effects. These side effects are mostly prominent side effects and are proven by various studies. However, the lesser known side effects of psychotropic drugs are sexual changes. Considering that sexual dysfunctions may have many biological, psychosocial and cultural causes, this issue should be addressed in a multidisciplinary manner. The risk of sexual dysfunction may increase with various factors such as socioeconomic status, mental illnesses, presence of a partner and duration of relationship, menopause and side effects related to psychotropic drug use. Many different drugs used in psychiatric treatments can cause changes in sexual function. Especially antipsychotics, antidepressants, anxiolytics and mood-modulating drugs that are effective on the central nervous system affect sexual function with different mechanisms. This study is also a literature review including the adaptation of a scale, which is the subject of a thesis, into Turkish and its validity-reliability study in the antipsychotic field. © The Author(s) 2025.
