摘要
Purpose of ReviewThe purpose of this review is to present an overview of the problem and root causes of poverty and economic exclusion within a critical disability studies framework. This review calls for research on poverty and economic exclusion that meaningfully includes persons labelled with intellectual disabilities to move toward the co-creation of practical solutions.Recent FindingsThe research presented in this article highlights the structural injustices that underpin poverty and exclusion. It emphasizes that disability is not merely a medical condition or disorder but a consequence of societal attitudes, policies, and economic systems that perpetuate inequality and marginalization.SummaryBy enacting the principles of equity-based co-creation and engaging in collaborative and collective efforts towards systemic change, it is possible to work towards a more inclusive society where persons labelled with intellectual disabilities have equal opportunities to thrive, contribute, and participate fully in all aspects of life.
