摘要
Introduction Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) constitutes a significant proportion of gastroenterological consultations. Psychoeducation for IBS can improve clinical outcomes. Podcasts might be a valuable medium for psychoeducation. The aim of this study was therefore to evaluate German-language podcasts on IBS with regard to their suitability for patient education and to identify both podcast recommendations and practice-oriented formulation examples for practitioners. Methods In a key date survey, podcasts produced by specialists on explanatory models of IBS were identified and a mixed methods analysis conducted. Content was evaluated quantitatively using a guideline-based checklist and qualitatively using a thematic analysis for an in-depth analysis of the contained explanatory models. Results From a total of 132 identified podcast episodes, 53 (duration M = 31 minutes, SD = 15.5) were included in the analysis. On average, the podcast episodes scored 16 out of a possible 60 points, with the best-rated episode scoring 37 points. Alongside helpful formulation examples, the qualitative analysis revealed stigmatizing to misleading statements. Discussion Podcasts comprise high-quality explanatory models for IBS. Practitioners can use a combination of podcast episodes as a valuable resource to facilitate psychoeducation.
