摘要:
This paper presents the theory, design and implementation of the orthogonal Doherty power amplifier (ODPA) with dual-mode configuration. It is illustrated that the DPA efficiency performance under active load modulation condition can be further enhanced by introducing the proposed orthogonal architecture with control signal power (CSP) injection. Meanwhile, strong adaptability against load mismatch effect can be achieved by the proposed ODPA with the collaborative use of dual-mode reciprocal bias configuration. A 2.1 GHz dual-mode ODPA is then design and implemented to validate the proposed architecture. With matched load, the fabricated dual-mode ODPA attained higher than 60% drain efficiency throughout the power range from 6 dB output back-off (OBO) to saturation. Moreover, output power variation between 42.8 dBm to 44.6 dBm and OBO efficiency between 47.2% and 58.1% were achieved for mismatched loads at a 2:1 voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) through the mode reconfiguration.
