摘要
The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) occurred while Brazil was undergoing a tumultuous political process: it had suffered an attempted communist coup, and Get & uacute;lio Vargas was about to establish a fascist dictatorship. The news arriving from Spain and disseminated through newspapers was interpreted as a reflection of the ideological combat that was also happening in Brazil. Therefore, it is important to study these publications to understand to what extent the actions of censorship, official and unofficial actors, and the supporters and opponents of Vargas intervened in the dissemination of those news and in the perception of Brazilians regarding the Spanish conflict.
