摘要
In the context of the growing scarcity of drinking water due to global population growth and industrial progress, there is an urgent need to develop effective technologies for removing arsenic from groundwater to meet drinking water standards. A large number of groundwater sources are not usable due to high arsenic content, and their use due to the lack of alternative sources of drinking water results in various diseases. This review summarizes and analyzes the recent advances and progress in the use of various iron oxyhydroxides, hydroxides and oxides (iron-oxygen compounds) such as FeOOH, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4 based adsorbents for the removal of arsenic from water. Strategies and methods for the synthesis of various adsorbents based on iron-oxygen compounds, the arsenic removal efficiency and the mechanism of adsorption, the influence of various parameters, the design of adsorption column and the regeneration of adsorbents are also discussed.
