摘要
The main aim of this work is to analyse the experiences of young people aged 16-29 years old in multiplayer online video game environments, focusing on the occurrence of violence in these environments and applying a gender perspective. This study is based on the work of Santana G & eacute;nero, gamers y videojuegos. Una aproximaci & oacute;n desde el enfoque de g & eacute;nero, al consumo de videojuegos y la situaci & oacute;n de las jugadoras en el sector. Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria [2020]), using 24 questions from his proposed instrument. The survey was conducted among 738 young people in Spain. Taking into account four socio-demographic factors (gender, sexual orientation, educational level and age), a statistical analysis was carried out using the two-stage cluster test. This approach identified six clusters which were then used to perform contrast tests and descriptive statistics, revealing differences in frequencies for each category of analysis. The research findings show that violence in MMO environments is a reality among young people and that gender-related factors play a role in the way this takes place. Over half of females who experience violence in these environments believe that the violence experienced is related to gender or other diversity characteristics. They also employ measures to conceal their identity in the game to a greater extent. A sizeable proportion of people who experience violence abandon the game.
