Nominal idiom that designates and predicates simultaneously

This paper proposes a continuum to establish the close relationship between adjective collocations such as l & aacute;grimas de cocodrilo and personaje estrella and nominal idioms such as media naranja and pr & iacute;ncipe azul. This continuum is based on semantic opacity. To this end, a brief nominal idioms typology is developed, distinguishing between the idioms thatwork as a noun and the ones that work as an adjective. The description of the different types of nominal idioms allows to recognize the most relevant constructions for this research, which are the ones that work simultaneously as a noun and as an adjective (media naranja,'pare- ja perfecta'). The semantic paraphrase of these constructions demands at least one noun and one adjective; therefore, this type of idioms is categorized as complex nominal idioms.
