Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is a foremost concern in modern electronic and communication systems due to their fast pace of technological growth and the upsurge in the number of electronic devices. Hexaferrite-based composites have emerged as a potential solution for EMI shielding since they possess structural stability, unique magnetic properties, and tunable electrical characteristics. This work pursues to review the studies that are carried out on hexaferrite-based composites toward the possible application of EMI shielding and microwave absorption. It discusses the theory of those factors that influence the shielding effectiveness and microwave absorption of hexaferrite based composites and also the synthesis methods. In addition, this paper also presents important progresses made in hexaferrite-based composites where different types of materials such as polymers, carbon, and MXenes have been used as counterparts. The influence of the structural design of hexaferrite composites, such as porous, multicomponent, multilayered, and core-shell on electromagnetic wave shielding effectiveness is also described. The review is also engraved on the challenges and future prospects for optimization in hexaferrite-based composites with respect to practical EMI shielding applications. The major goal of this review article is to provide an understanding of how recent research results can be utilized to create advanced hexaferrite-based EMI shielding solutions.
