摘要
Peri-implant diseases pose a growing challenge in clinical practice. This article explores their potential association with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome, characterized by obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia, elevated triglyceride level, and low HDL cholesterol, increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus. Studies suggest that diabetes mellitus and obesity elevate the risk of peri-implantitis, likely due to alterations in the microbiome and inflammatory processes. The impact of metabolic syndrome on peri-implantitis treatment remains unclear due to a lack of sufficient studies. Further research is needed to elucidate these relationships, emphasizing the consideration of systemic risk factors in implant therapy. This review provides an overview of the current state of research, presents key studies and critically evaluates them, and offers insights into future directions.
