摘要：
Background: Today, depression has become frequent already in youth, and we need clarification of the factors behind its etiology and maintenance. Stress and coping with stress seem to be of significance. Results: Physical stress load reinforces depression. This is also true for a lack of seeking social support and aggressive or resignative means of coping with stress. Hyperactivity of the HPA axis also plays a significant role. Conclusion: The results align with Beck's cognitive model if hyperactivity of the HPA axis is considered.
