In this study, we investigated an analytical approach for performing the electromagnetic field analysis of an axial flux permanent magnet machine (AFPM). Due to the mechanical specificity of AFPMs, three-dimensional (3D) analysis is essential, so we proposed an analytical method to consider the effect of leakage and fringing in the r-direction. Initially, we defined the simplified model and the analysis regions for considering the slotting effect of stator structure, which is an analytical method in the (i, z) plane. Using a similar approach, a simplified model and analysis domains were defined on the (r, z) plane. Additionally, results for a 3D analytical approach were derived based on these findings. Finally, the analytical results of flux density were compared with the 3D finite element analysis results, and the validity was verified.
