摘要
Addiction to the use of social media, especially the TikTok application, has become a significant issue in the context of youth psychological well-being. This study aims to systematically examine the pattern of social media use and its influence on the psychological well-being of youth. The methodology of systematic literature review is applied by following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. This research focuses on the personality characteristics of youth who use the TikTok application with the motivation to get attention, the need to belong, and the need to be admired. The four levels of PRISMA are used to systematically explore the highlights of the work. The results of the study show that the use of social media, including the TikTok application, has an influence on the psychological well-being of youth. The excessive use of social media has been linked to a number of negative issues, such as the spread of false information, cyberbullying culture, and the negative impact of FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) on the psychological well-being of youth. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that the use of the TikTok application also brings certain benefits. However, the influence of addictive behaviour towards short video applications on the TikTok application has not yet been fully explored in previous studies. This study contributes to the understanding of the relationship between the use of social media, especially the TikTok application, with the psychological well-being of youth.
