ALI is a common occurrence in immunocompromised hosts, with higher mortality than in those with normal immune systems. Knowledge about epidemiology and risk factors is important to recognize and diagnose this condition. Management should typically utilize HFNC or NIV for upfront support, with ICU monitoring in place to ensure deterioration and need for IMV is performed in a timely manner.
