Analysis of microstructure and properties evolution of asynchronous hot rolled stainless steel clad plate with interlayer

316L/Ni/EH40 stainless steel clad plate with interlayer was studied by multi-pass asynchronous hot rolling process. The microstructure and properties of the interface of the clad plate were investigated through optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), microhardness test, and room temperature shearing. The results show that the curvature of the clad plate after the fifth pass of shaping rolling is 3.78 x 10-4 mm -1 , and the clad plate is relatively straight. With the cumulative rolling, the austenite grains near the interface of cladding 316L steel are refined by 85.6%, and the grains on EH40 side of base layer are refined by 32.3%. The holes at the interface gradually close, the effective contact area of the interface gradually increases, and the alloy elements at the interface diffuse more fully. The average hardness of 316L side increased by 18.2% due to work hardening during rolling and mechanical crystallization after rolling, and the average hardness of EH40 side decreased by 5.5 % due to dynamic recrystallization during hot rolling. The interfacial shear strength increased by 146.8%, and the elongation after fracture increased from 19% to 154%.
