¿INFORMATION LITERACY AN INDICATOR OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE?

Objectives: Critically analyze the results of research and other published works that deal with the topic of information literacy and academic excellence to answer the following question: is information literacy an indicator of academic excellence? Design/Methodology/Approach. The research focuses on reviewing bibliographic studies and analysis on the intersection of information literacy and academic excellence. This type of study allows developing, reviewing, and specifying aspects and characteristics of the two main theoretical themes, including illustrating how research is approached in both modes of analysis, academic excellence in the context of information literacy. The search was limited to works published in Spanish and English, excluding those articles that do not focus on academic excellence in the field of information literacy. The period under study selected was from 2000 to 2023. Although most of the articles did not focus on the context of higher education, or were repeated articles, it was considered that some of those found should be included due to the significance of their results. The search returned showed 62 results. Taking into account the inclusion criteria, only 50 articles were analyzed, which were reduced to 46 after reading the titles and abstracts. Subsequently, another 5 articles were discarded as they did not clearly show their results, therefore considering 41 relevant articles for inclusion. Results/Discussion. Individuals who engage in collaborative editing and community learning are more willing to adapt and evolve with the latest trends and developments in their field, which can drive academic excellence by staying current and relevant in their research and work. Conclusions. The postmodern approach to information literacy relates to academic excellence by promoting the co-creation of knowledge, collaboration, and interaction among individuals. By allowing a more holistic and dynamic vision of knowledge creation, this approach contributes to a greater quality and depth in the generation of original ideas and knowledge. In addition, it is positioned as a key indicator of academic excellence due to its influence on student achievement, the development of critical thinking, and the ability to conduct informed research. Originality/Value. It shows information that is valuable for the understanding that the promotion and development of information literacy in the educational field are crucial to promote academic excellence and prepare students to face the challenges of the contemporary world.
