An efficient recuperative 4-quadrant power supply with quench protection was developed and is tested with a 6.5 t accelerator magnet. The test is done with several fast and slow ramping regimes up to 9 kA and +/- 22 V. The magnet test is done for investigation of quench characteristics during fast ramping. This is a suitable application for the test of our developed recuperative +/- 24 V, +/- 14 kA power supply system and its sensing and protection components. The energy stored in the magnet at full current is 0.5 MJ and can be cycled back and forth to the 5 MJ capacitor bank. Our quench protection system is set to 900 V at 9 kA. We want to demonstrate the high efficiency, low noise, fast reaction time and the compactness of our system.
