摘要
The present work explores the growing field of Schiff base metal complexes, highlighting their increasing importance in biological contexts. Schiff base metal complexes, distinguished by their unique ligand configurations, have emerged as valuable tools in medicinal chemistry due to their versatile applications as oxygen carriers, catalysts, and therapeutic agents against various diseases. The strategic selection of ligands and metal ions is crucial in determining the therapeutic efficacy of these complexes. The current review examines the chemistry of Schiff bases, their synthesis, properties, and significance as ligands in coordination chemistry. It also discusses the biological relevance of transition metal ions in health and disease management. Through an analysis of recent studies, we showcase the significant impact of Schiff base metal complexes in bio-inorganic chemistry, particularly their roles as antimicrobial, antifungal, anticancer, and antioxidant agents. The findings presented not only enhance our comprehension of metal-ligand interplays in biological frameworks but also lay the groundwork for the innovation of new metal-based therapeutic solutions.
