摘要
the hegemonic discourse in Bogota, capital of Colombia, during the second half of the 19th century argued that women should refrain from becoming part of the public space, because their duty was subject to the household. Even when it was identified that several women of the Bogota elite agreed with this premise, we followed up on the ways in which some of them made a public presence, expressing their ideas, assuming positions and launching initiatives in the fields of charity and politics, complying with Catholic precepts, Christian virtues and domestic duties. This article gathers the voices of some women recorded in the press and other printed documents from Bogota in the second half of the 19thcentury, which were analyzed from the theoretical framework of women's history and the gender perspective, to explain the interventions of Bogota women outside the domestic space and how they built a female identity in a supposedly male sphere: the public sector. It is concluded that some women from Bogota proposed at an individual and collective level a public feminine duty based on safeguarding their personal and family interests, as well as the moral interests of the republic.
