Study of the Stress of Family Caregivers of Cancer Patients

Introduction: the role of the family in caring for cancer patients is fundamental, but it can cause stress for caregivers. This study aims to identify stress, as well as assessing the relationship with support networks and determining the sociodemographic profile of family caregivers of cancer patients cared for in the state of Par & aacute;. Methods: a study of 150 adult family caregivers of patients in an oncology treatment center. Sociodemographic data was collected and the Perceived Stress Scale was applied. Descriptive and inferentialstatistics were used to analyze the data. Results: the highest stress scores were found among females. There was a relationship between the level of stress and place of residence and level of education. Discussion: Mental health support for caregivers is essential. The associated emotional burden can be alleviated with family support. Conclusions: there is a continuing need for support and intervention for caregivers of cancer patients.
