摘要
Universities play a crucial role as the main drivers of knowledge innovation in the innovation system. This paper examines independent knowledge innovation in universities, comparing and analysing cooperative independent knowledge innovation in China and the United States by scientometrics and social network analysis methods. The data on international collaborative articles of Chinese and American universities from 2013 to 2022 through the InCites database. Chinese universities are increasingly demonstrating knowledge innovation in international cooperation, narrowing the gap with American universities and even reversing in some indicators. However, there is a gap between Chinese universities and American universities in terms of collaborative independent knowledge innovation. The number of Chinese universities dominant articles is lower, and the cooperative relationship with other countries don't maintain long-term stability.
