摘要
Purpose: Clinical reasoning (CR) of a physiotherapist consists of interaction with clients, client orientation, the biopsychosocial approach, and metacognitive and reflective competences. In this study, the aim was to evaluate physiotherapy students' self-evaluated CR competence and background factors such as sex, age, and study progress. Materials and Methods: An electronic questionnaire was sent to bachelor's student members of the Finnish Association of Physiotherapists (N = 773; years 2017-2018). The response rate to this cross-sectional study was 26% (n = 198; mean age 28.6), and 82% were women. Study progress was classified as early stage < 120 (21%), middle stage120-180 (49%) and last stage > 180 ECTSs (28%). The independent sample test, one-way ANOVA, and post hoc test were performed with IBM SPSS 26. Results: Self-evaluated CR competence was very good (4,1; scale 1-5). Middle-aged respondents scored significantly higher on CR than their younger counterparts and more advanced students (>= 120) scored higher than their early stage counterparts (<120). Advanced students evaluated their competences more strongly in 'Factors behind physiotherapy planning', 'Evaluation in physiotherapy' and 'Client-oriented guidance in physiotherapy' compared with their early stage counterparts. ConclusionsIn the future, more attention should be given to metacognitive and reflective competences and the development of CR competence in the final study stage.
